Babysitter's Club

Elle(4):  He's have penises and she's have vaginas.

Me: ... That they do. That they do...

And that would be one of my favorite conversations with a 4 year old who I was babysitting last week. John and I watched Elle and her younger brother, Truman(2), for 4 days while their parents went on a little skiing gettaway in Park City.

(I bet you didn't know that you are reading the blog of a professional babysitter, huh? Go ahead, you can feel cool now..................Annnd moving on!)

It was a busy 4 days with those two kids! Elle has Autism and needed to be taken to therapy, Truman has asthma and needed breathing treatments a couple times a day. I was a little nervous for all that more than anything else, but really it turned out to be no big thing!

The kids were of course excited and crazy, testing out what they could and couldn't get away with - Mom and Dad are out of town! Party time!! haha! And John had to go to school and study groups most of the time, so really it was just me and kiddos... Double Party time!! lol

Other highlights from the week include:

  • Attempting to feed the "ducks" at the park. Those things were REALLY big and chasing after us! I was grabbing the kids and yelling, "Just throw it and run! Throw the bread as far as you can and let's go!!" We made it out alive.

  • Waking up to a noise at 3 am and finding Elle in her bed, eating a carton of ice cream with a spoon.

  • Dropping the kids off at their preschool and they both wanted hugs and kisses before I left AND to hear me promise that I'd come back to get them! lol!

  • Singing and dancing along to all the Disney movie music gloriousness together.

  • Truman waking me up when he had a bad dream and he wanted hugs.

  • Realizing I needed to tell them exactly where I was at all times... even if it's just going to the bathroom. They thought I left them and were freaking out!! haha!

  • Watching Real Steel and Star Wars a million times.... man those kids LOOoooVE robots.

  • Singing them lullabies and reading/making up stories every night before they went to bed.

  • Going to the Blue Park and going down the big slide together over and over again.

  • Naptime with the kids. I needed those naps just as much as they did! HOLy CoW!

  • Using a mommy voice for everything- "Wow that's so WONDERFUL!" "That looks amazing! Good job!!" You know, where the end of every sentence goes up in tone and is REALLY enthusiastic?! haha! I didn't even realize I was doing it until John came home at night and was telling me about class and I was like "That's SO GREAT! Good job!!" John laughed and was like, "Uh... why are you talking to me like I'm 5?"

By the time their parents came home I was SO beat and ready to have my life of full nights' sleep back. I definitely have new respect for parents! I think it wouldn't be as hard if you got a full night's sleep, but it's really hard when you're getting up a couple times a night to change diapers or put the ice cream back in the freezer! lol. I really fell in love with those cute kids though and it was a lot of learning and fun for me.

So... Is it crazy that I still want to have kids?? Ha! I thought that would deter me for a little bit, but...nope. :)
